Kätkytsaari

· Suur-Saimaa · Sarastus · 6 M

Proper sailing weather arrived quite late after a cool May. We had a chance to go out on the lake for a short afternoon sail after other commitments. There were three of us: my wife, a Swiss friend and myself. We set out with the idea that if there was enough wind, we would sail a little further, but probably only as far as Kätkytsaari.

After launching the boat, a north-easterly breeze of about 6 knots ensured a peaceful start to the season for our guest, who was sailing for the first time. At times, when coming from behind the island, the wind picked up to about 9 knots, giving us a little extra speed, but it didn’t last long.

Anchored by Kätkytsaari

As we approached Katkytsaari, we noticed three other boats, which were not the kind of boaters who choose to enjoy the silence offered by nature. We landed a few hundred metres further north.

Returning back to the boat after walking around the island

On the island, we looked around a bit and threw some bread stones. Soon, however, it was time to head back.

We arrived at the slipway shortly after eight and were soon back home. The trip was a relaxed start to the sailing season. Our Swiss friend also enjoyed the experience.
